It’s moves like this apex somersault on his initial pass that make me believe Collentro is secretly a boneless Gumby creature.
I thought a legal apex jump required you to land it. Wouldn’t his fall make it illegal?
On a scoring pass, to get full points for passing blockers on an apex jump, you need to land skates first. Since he was on his initial pass (with the NYSE jammer already out and scoring), this part doesn’t matter. You can get out of the pack on your initial pass without passing people while “upright,” you just can’t get lead jammer.
Re legality: If you land on your face after an apex jump and stand (assuming you didn’t go out of bounds), that’s totally legal. If a skate or body part touches the ground out of bounds, that’s illegal.
And special caveat, which takes place here: If you attempt to jump the apex around one opposing blocker—and the opposing blocker illegally blocks you, causing you to fall—you can stand up EVEN IF you went out of bounds during the jump because that blocker is no longer in play, so you haven’t actually cut anyone.
In this gif, the jammer stays in bounds (if not upright) during his jump, so he’s legally fine. Even if he hadn’t, the solo blocker he jumped around got sent off for an illegal block. Make sense?
